DIE DIE BE: SECRECY THROUGH PUBLIC DISBELIEF / LISTEN ON SPOTIFY

Take them power and give them religion.

– a slightly different Christmas song

and happy sunny days!

What is Christmas? What are we doing today. Well, there are many views. Essentially, everyone is trying to have fun today. Some of us are paying a lot for this. Because they think it’s the only way to be happy. Others see it as tradition. But what kind of tradition? There are many views. It seems to be one of the dearest traditions. But which one? The one of joy. But why? I suppose the origin of all these traditions lies in a disturbing observation of nature. When I observe the sun, I find that it is not always in the same place. If I observe it for a long time, I can quickly see that the days grow shorter or longer. On December 22nd we had the longest night, as well as the shortest day. Through our observations and our memories we know that the days are getting longer now and that the sun will not set forever. This is a joyful realization! A reason to celebrate!

To keep it that way, I give you a song to listen to. A slightly different Christmas song.

Secrecy through public disbelief is the name of the song. Among other things, I mean this knowledge about the winter solstice, which we no longer perceive as such. It became a minor matter. Already today our body feels that the days are getting longer and so naturally there is more joy in us. But we believe it is the gifts we buy or give that give us joy. Or maybe even because the Christ Child was born today. Or whoever. If I observe our history, it quickly becomes clear how it came about and how we can keep it that way. Our everyday rituals can be exploited to sell us needs and the things that shall make those needs disappear; like religion, or the newer car, the sharper screen … so that we can’t exist without these things and their updates anymore. Rituals make our everyday life and therefore our life easier. They make it clearer, I do not have to question everything. But I don’t also need shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion. And leave-in treatment and blow-dryer protection. And preferably everything from the Rituals brand!

The booker of Blue Balls, Thomas Gisler, said about the song: too much LSD. I sent him this song because he was looking for a piece that could drive away the last remaining people of a party. The exciting thing for me about his statement is that the song was perceived as drugged, i.e. surreal. Maybe he only meant it musically. For me it’s an absolutely sober song. The fact, that the world without a filter on the senses is now perceived as surreal worries me a lot. Because … what else is real?

Surrealism only serves as a means of representing reality, in order to examine it in a different light. To see reality with different filters. To say: “Hey! Wait a minute! Take a closer look at it and don’t think you know how it is, always according to your patterns and habits and blind spots.” Hence the surreal images of Dali and others. But drugs never replace the development of the self. And I can change my perception without the use of drugs.

At this point I would like to address young artists. The understanding of surrealism or the world in general does not need the use of drugs. The belief that one has to use drugs because of this is comparable to do suicide in order to understand suicide. So, please, hands off drugs. I can say this, because I don’t need them myself. I am convinced that they are only disturbing and cause long-term damage. And soon you won’t even be able to take the daily ration of sunshine.

Here’s a story about that. With my friend Sam I had a phase where we played a lot of chess. We got better and better and also gained more and more knowledge about the way our opponent played. So we started to play with the clock. Whoever had a good day, won, and otherwise we became very much alike. But whoever drank the first beer was very likely to lose.

After a beer you see the world differently – but in the game of reality you get worse.
